The transport minister of Bihar has ordered show‑cause notices to district transport officers citing inadequate revenue collection.

The transport ministry of Bihar announced that the minister has directed show‑cause notices to all district transport officers (DTOs) for failing to achieve the prescribed revenue targets. The directive was issued after a review of the department’s monthly financial statements showed a noticeable shortfall in collections across several districts.

Revenue from transport fees, permits and vehicle registrations forms a significant part of the state’s non‑tax income, and the ministry highlighted that the dip threatens planned infrastructure projects. Officials were asked to submit detailed explanations for the shortfall and outline corrective measures within a stipulated timeframe.

The minister emphasized that accountability will be reinforced and that underperforming officers could face disciplinary action if they do not demonstrate improvement. The move is part of a broader effort to tighten financial discipline within state departments and ensure that transport‑related services are adequately funded.
