An audit at AIIMS Bhopal revealed that a 14.27-rupee tube was purchased for 943.49 rupees, with over 300 medical items marked up by up to 6500 percent.

A recent examination of procurement records at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhopal has raised serious concerns regarding the pricing of medical supplies. The review found that a standard tube, with a base value of 14.27 rupees, was purchased at a cost of 943.49 rupees, indicating a massive financial discrepancy.

The scope of the irregularities extends beyond this single item. The audit identified that the prices of more than 125 medicines and over 200 surgical items were significantly higher than their standard rates. In some cases, the marked-up prices were found to be between 500 and 6,500 percent higher than the expected market value.

These findings have triggered questions about the transparency and accountability of the procurement process at the institute. The significant gap between the actual cost and the purchase price suggests potential inefficiencies or irregularities in the supply chain management.

As of now, the officials responsible for these purchases have not issued a public statement addressing the allegations. The incident has drawn attention to the need for stricter oversight in the procurement of essential medical goods at premier government healthcare institutions in Madhya Pradesh.
