A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is showing signs of cyclonic intensification, prompting the India Meteorological Department to issue warnings for possible heavy rainfall across Bihar and northern states.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has identified a fresh low‑pressure area developing over the Bay of Bengal. Satellite imagery shows the system gaining organization, with increasing cloud tops and wind circulation that are typical of a nascent cyclonic disturbance.

Meteorologists caution that the system could intensify into a cyclonic storm within the next 48‑72 hours if sea‑surface temperatures remain supportive. While the exact track is uncertain, the IMD has placed the region under a ‘cyclone watch’ and is monitoring the system closely.

Forecasters have highlighted the potential for heavy rainfall to spread northward, affecting Bihar and adjoining northern states. Rainfall totals could exceed normal thresholds, raising concerns about flooding in low‑lying districts and disruption to transport and agricultural activities.

Authorities in Bihar have been advised to ready emergency response teams, clear drainage channels, and issue public advisories to mitigate the impact of sudden downpours.
