Veteran administrator Balasubrahmanyam has assumed the role of Vice‑Chairman and Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, pledging to strengthen the network and improve passenger services.

Balasubrahmanyam took charge as the Vice‑Chairman and Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) on Monday, succeeding the previous incumbent amid a period of operational challenges for the state’s bus network.

In his inaugural address, Balasubrahmanyam highlighted the urgent need to reinforce the public transport framework, citing gaps in route coverage, aging fleet and passenger comfort as key areas for immediate attention.

He outlined a three‑point action plan: modernising the bus fleet with newer, fuel‑efficient vehicles; expanding connectivity to underserved rural and peri‑urban zones; and instituting stricter service standards to enhance punctuality and cleanliness. The appointment is expected to bring a fresh strategic outlook to APSRTC’s long‑term growth.

State officials welcomed the move, noting that strong leadership at the helm is critical for achieving the government’s broader goal of reducing road congestion and promoting sustainable mobility across Andhra Pradesh.

Balasubrahmanyam’s tenure will be closely watched by commuters and industry observers alike, as APSRTC seeks to restore confidence among passengers and improve its financial health.
