A dilapidated road linking Assam and Arunachal Pradesh has been upgraded to National Highway status, sparking optimism for future repairs and better connectivity.
The stretch of road that connects Assam to Arunachal Pradesh, long plagued by potholes and poor maintenance, has officially been designated as a National Highway. The upgrade means the route will now fall under the purview of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, which oversees funding and development of national roads.
With the new status, the government can allocate central funds earmarked for National Highway projects. This is expected to accelerate rehabilitation work, improve safety for commuters and boost trade between the two states.
Officials have indicated that the first phase of repairs could begin in the coming months, with a comprehensive assessment of the road’s condition already underway. The move is seen as a key step toward enhancing connectivity in the northeastern region.
The decision comes amid growing calls from local communities for better infrastructure, and it is expected to bring a much-needed boost to the region’s economic activity.
