Airbnb's new rule limiting guest cleaning duties has angered hosts, with some threatening to block bookings on the policy's effective date while guests largely support the change.
Airbnb has introduced a revised policy that explicitly limits the cleaning tasks expected from guests during their stay. The move, intended to enhance the guest experience by reducing their responsibilities, has triggered significant discontent among property owners.
While the majority of guests appear to support the change, many hosts have expressed their frustration on social media platforms, including Reddit. Hosts argue that the new guidelines shift the burden of maintenance disproportionately onto them.
In response to the policy, a segment of the host community is threatening to implement a booking blackout on the date the new rules become effective. This collective action aims to pressure the platform to reconsider the changes that affect their operational costs and workload.
The situation highlights a growing tension between Airbnb’s efforts to standardize guest expectations and the practical realities faced by independent hosts who rely on the platform for income.
