29 farmers from Sikkim recently finished a focused training on sustainable agriculture at the Umiam Hub, a facility known for promoting eco‑friendly farming practices. The program, organized by local agricultural authorities, covered topics such as organic soil management, water‑conservation techniques, and integrated pest control.
Participants were taught how to implement crop‑rotation schedules and use bio‑fertilizers, aiming to increase yields while reducing chemical inputs. The training also included hands‑on demonstrations of drip irrigation and composting methods.
Officials said the initiative will help Sikkim farmers diversify their produce and improve resilience against climate variability. The trainees expressed enthusiasm about applying the new techniques in their home villages and sharing knowledge with peers.
